Julie de Stuers (1895-1981)

Julie de Stuers was born on 4 February 1895 on the isle of Java (Indonesia). She studied in Berlin and New York, made a tour through the former 'Nederlands-Indië' (Indonsia), travelled four years through the U.S. and joined the 'German Opera of New York'. After 1920 she sang for a short time at the opera in the Netherlands, a.o. as Amneris (Aida). She gave lieder-recitals, which she liked to introduce in foreign countries Dutch composers, such as Alphons Diepenbrock, Badings, Michielsen, Dina Appeldoorn, Berta Frensel Wegener, a.o. But she also shined in arias from 'Samson et Dalila' (Saint-Saëns) and Mahler's 'Das Lied von der Erde' - which she performed together with the Dutch tenor Henk Noort.

She died in 1981.
